Life has changed; Silver lining?
Updated: Jul 2
The Covid 19 Pandemic has certainly changed our lives...including mine. Until the virus came to America, I had the most amazing job with such an amazing airline-United Airlines.
In January of 2020, little did I know (and all of us know) how lives would change not only in the United States, but in the world. I had no intention to leave United Airlines or desire to do so. I loved United. It was my part of my life and everything I stood for: Vibrancy, clean, wholesome, powerful, dependable, efficient and caring are just a few words to describe how I felt about United. My goal was to make our employees a bit better today than they were the previous day. Similarly, also to make the airline United a bit better today than it was yesterday. Even just a small step forward I felt had value and made my job so very satisfying.
I will cherish and treasure and give gratitude everyday for the time had working in the airline industry. It was a very great chapter in my life's book.
One of my favorite movies which has shaped my life is called "Chariots of Fire". I watch this movie with enthusiasm over and over and over. One of the most influential scenes in the movie is the part when Cambridge University officers were speaking to the students who were preparing for the 1920 Olympic games in Paris, He urged the athletes to "run with hope in their hearts and wings on their heals" and to examine themselves and let each of them discover "where their true chance of greatness lies and to seize this chance and rejoice in it."
Now is my time to discover my true chance of greatness. It is time to pivot and to tackle new adventures. As such, my dream (and I believe the Lord's will for the remaining approximately 40 years left on this earth) is to reach out and help the youth of our great country.
We lost our nephew just over 10 years ago in a horrific case of addiction. Everyone loved Joey. His senseless loss of life changed many lives and especially mine. Since then I have been working hard to come up with a paradigm or model to reach out and in some way help the youth of this country believe in themselves. The investment in our youth is the best way that I have deduced to spend my precious time to make a positive change in this world.
So, how do I help our youth be the best they can be? How do I help them to discover their powerful talents and gifts from above? Since I love sports analogies to make points in life, I decided to use my fascination and love for the sport of golf to illustrate how to get through to help our teens understand how to use their gift and talents given to them from above.
Stay tuned and please join me in this exciting adventure to shape our youth to be their best!
God bless you and your family,
Douglas C. Taylor
